الماضي والمضارع

al-māḍī wal-muḍāriʿ

The present changes at the front of the verb; the past changes at the end. That contrast is the whole system.المضارع يتغير أوله، والماضي يتغير آخره؛ وهذا هو الفرق كله.

The two negatives

Past: لم أُرسلْ. Present: لا أُرسلُ. Different words, different endings.الماضي يُنفى بـ«لم»، والمضارع بـ«لا».

Using both استعمال الزمنين

  • I use the internet every day.أستخدمُ الإنترنتَ كلَّ يوم.
  • Yesterday I downloaded a new application.أمسِ حمَّلتُ تطبيقًا جديدًا.
  • I read the text and saved the document.قرأتُ النصَّ وحفظتُ المستند.
  • I did not reply to the message.لم أردَّ على الرسالة.
In the writing paper

The checklist asks for varied structures. Using both tenses in one paragraph is the quickest way to show it.استعمالُ الزمنين في فقرةٍ واحدة أسرعُ دليلٍ على تنويع التراكيب.
