صفات المواد

ṣifāt al-mawādd

Naming a material is one mark; describing what it is like is another. Properties come in opposite pairs.تسميةُ المادة درجة، ووصفُ خصائصها درجةٌ أخرى، والصفات أزواجٌ متقابلة.

Describing a material وصف المادة

  • Stone is a hard, heavy material.الحجرُ مادةٌ صلبةٌ وثقيلة.
  • Plastic is light but weak.البلاستيكُ خفيفٌ لكنه ضعيف.
  • Glass is transparent and fragile.الزجاجُ شفافٌ وهشّ.
  • Cotton is soft and light.القطنُ ناعمٌ وخفيف.
Agreement

مادة is feminine, so its adjectives take ة: مادة صلبة وثقيلة. Both adjectives, not just the first.تُؤنَّث كلُّ الصفات: مادةٌ صلبةٌ وثقيلة.
