Career ambitions

awaddu an uṣbiḥa

The single most useful sentence in this topic — and the one the speaking exam asks for by name.

The pattern القالب

Arabic English
I would like to become a doctor. (m)
I would like to become a doctor. (f)
He would like to become an engineer.
She would like to become a teacher.
Two endings to watch

أصبحَ takes a fatḥa because it follows أن. The profession takes a fatḥa because it is the complement of أصبح. Two marks in one short sentence.

Adding the reason

  • I would like to become a doctor because I enjoy helping people.
  • I would like to become an engineer because I like mathematics.
  • I would like to become a teacher because I like children.
Never leave it bare

The ambition alone is one mark. The ambition plus لأنني and a reason is three.
