Possession

تراكيب الملكية

tarākīb al-milkiyya

Arabic has no word for "my". It puts an ending on the noun instead — and that is the whole of possession.لا توجد كلمةٌ مستقلة للملكية؛ بل لواحقُ تُضاف إلى آخر الاسم.

The endings لواحق الملكية

Ending Meaning Example English
ـي my لغتي my language
ـك your لغتك your language
ـه his ثقافته his culture
ـها her ثقافتها her culture
ـنا our عاداتنا our customs
ـهم their معتقداتهم their beliefs
The ة becomes ت

A word ending in ة changes it to ت when an ending is added: لغة → لغتي, ثقافة → ثقافته.تتحول التاء المربوطة إلى مفتوحة: لغة ← لغتي.

الـ disappears

A noun cannot carry الـ and a possessive ending at once. Never اللغتي — just لغتي.لا يجتمع التعريف بـ«الـ» مع الإضافة.
